The route leads partly through the Rouwvennen nature reserve and the Paardekop. The Paardekop is the highest sandy plain in the Peel. Further on you will cross the Peel Canal. The Peel Canal was part of the Peel-Raam defence line, of which the bunkers are still visible.
A little further on, you pass through the Schadijkse woods, where many pines have been planted to prevent sand drifts. In the 2nd World War, these woods were a hiding place for many inhabitants of the surrounding villages.
