Places of interest

'De Broekmolen' in Stramproy was still referred water-mill from the early 19th century.

The Broekmill: A beautifully situated water mill

The Broekmill is beautifully but secluded in the hamlet of Heyeroth near Stramproy. From the paved road to the Belgian town of Bocholt, a dirt road leads to the mill. The Aabeek, which forms the land border here, supplies the mill with water power. The area around the mill was originally wooded and sparse. Traditionally, the mill was a fief of the Stift van Thorn.

History and technology

The mill has an interesting history and was recently made millable again. The wooden lower wheel with sheet iron blades drives the mill. The paddles are converted on the inside to limit the transshipment of the fast flowing water.

Visit information

The Broekmill is in use for power generation. Visits are possible by appointment by calling 0495 - 562253. The mill is also open every 2nd Wednesday and 4th Sunday of the month between 11-16 hours.
