De IJzeren Man and Weerterbergen

Between Weert and the Belgian border are several nature reserves, which are part of the cross-border park Kempen-Broek.Recreation area De IJzeren Man is located near Weert. It is named after a lake that originated there as a sand excavation for the Eindhoven - Weert railway line. With its dry forests and reflective fens, this area has natural beauty in abundance.
The IJzeren Man, the main gateway to the Kempen~Broek border park, has a very varied range of recreational facilities. You will find the starting points for a number of recreational routes, a sensory park, a natural camping site, a subtropical swimming pool, a water ski track, a climbing forest, a Nature and Environment Centre, an indoor and outdoor playground (Kinderpretland) and a children's farm. This makes the Iron Man area a perfect gateway from which to discover Kempen~Broek. And after all that discovery, you can relax in one of the surrounding restaurants.
The Weerter Bergen and Budeler Bergen consist of a continuous (coniferous) woodland area with a centrally located heathland and drifting sand area. The drifting dunes determine the view and create an attractive and undulating natural landscape. Many birds nest on the heath and drifting dunes.
