Places of interest

The Lancaster memorial was erected in memory of 7 soldiers, who died in 1943 when the Lancaster ED 973 crashed. The plane, which was on its way from Waltham (England) to Oberhausen (Germany), was shot down by a German fighter plane near Grashoek on 15 June.

The monument is a broad, concrete column. On the front, an image of a Lancaster aeroplane is visible in relief. On top of the column a text can be read, with on top a glass plate. On it are, among other things, the names of the deceased. Seven tiles in different colours have been applied to the base, symbolising the seven deceased soldiers.
