During the Meinweg walking route, you will notice how richly varied this landscape is. The route first leads through the woods with many different types of trees, then past meadows and hedgerows and directly into the marshy nature reserve "De Turfkoelen". In earlier times, a fascinating high moor developed here due to peat cutting, which has become the biotope of rare plants and the most diverse animal species.
You will pass castle Daelenbroeck and along the Roer you will reach the Rode Beek, which due to its high iron content is actually coloured red and meanders beautifully through the terrain. Directly behind the stream is the romantic Effelder Waldsee, which can be seen beautifully from various vantage points on the way.
On the route along the Rode Beek you will come across the Gitstappermolen, which has been in use as a water mill for around 1000 years and is still in use as a corn mill today. Visitors can buy flour and bread in the mill's shop. A beautiful piece of living history. There are also cafés and playgrounds here.
The brochure is available at the various tourist information offices and can be ordered from the webshop.
