Sunken castle De Bedelaar Haelen

According to a legend, there is a sunken castle in the manor of the Beggar. It is the punishment of a hard-hearted lord of the castle.

On Christmas night, the lord of the castle refused a beggar overnight accommodation, sending him back into the cold. While the beggar was escaping, the castle disappeared into the earth and was surrounded by a lake. On Christmas Eve, the castle bell can still be heard ringing.

The sagas about sunken castles are often a cry from the poor and hungry population for justice. This story is also a warning. A warning not to get too excited.
