Altweerterheide is a church village southwest of Weert and is the westernmost place in Dutch Limburg between the farmlands and against the woods. The mining of the area around Altweerterheide only started in the beginning of the twentieth century. This led to the construction of several farms in the area. Later, a real residential centre was created with a wooden church from 1925 as a central point. The village is surrounded by all kinds of nature reserves, including the Laura forests, the Iron Man and the Tungeler Red Light District. An ideal environment for hiking, cycling or horse riding. A rest is so taken because the Schuttershoeve is pleasantly located on many paths and cycling routes.
