War and Peace Memorial Kessel

Wim Rijvers (1927 - 2010), born and bred in Kessel, made the bronze War and Peace Monument in 1988.

The statue on the column symbolises two birds, one dying, with its head pointing downwards, and one victorious, trying to break free from the earth.

On the pedestal is the text: "stand still for a moment" plus the names of the 17 people of Kessel who died during or in the aftermath of the Second World War. The monument is in the castle garden in Kessel.
