In September and October, the Limburgs Landschap Foundation organises almost daily rutting deer excursions in the Weerterbos. This is a unique opportunity to experience the impressive call of the king of the forest up close. Sign up for a morning or evening walk and witness this remarkable natural phenomenon.
Programme
- Starting point: Huyskamer Daatjeshoeve, Heugterbroekdijk 34, 6031 LE, Nederweert
- Highlights:
Roaring deer: During the rutting season, male red deer loudly roar to assert dominance and compete for the attention of the females. This powerful display is a truly unforgettable experience.
Nature experience: Discover the Weerterbos, a former swamp forest on the border of Limburg and North Brabant, part of the Kempen~Broek nature park. Red deer have lived here since 2005, and their mating season begins in late summer.
Guided tour: Set off with a nature guide in search of the red deer and learn all about these majestic animals.
Important information
- Duration: The excursion is a 6-kilometre walk lasting around 2 hours.
- Tips: Wear suitable clothing to protect against mosquitoes and sturdy footwear. Bringing binoculars is highly recommended.
Accessibility: The paths are well maintained. Dogs are not allowed.
