The Brachterwald loop: an advanced smuggling route
It is often romanticised but for many families it was often a matter of survival. And so there was plenty of smuggling in and around the border of the Netherlands and Germany.
The walk that runs in the shape of an 8 goes largely through the Brachter Wald. A nature reserve on a so-called high area of the Meuse. In some places, the height is as high as 60 metres.
