Archaeological Hiking Route "Eiland aan de Maas"

The route is a combination of two short hiking routes that are connected to each other. The route in Ohé en Laak can be connected to a route through the fortified town of Stevensweert, and vice versa. The route follows the hiking junction system, namely 62-61-21-51-50-10-21-61-30-31-32-33-34-40-35-62. You can start the hiking route at any point along the route. You will walk the route clockwise. In Stevensweert, you can deviate from the route to visit the beautiful historic center and grab something to eat or drink. You will also find two interesting stories on the Archeo Route there.

Overview of the route

There are two methods to fully explore the "Eiland aan de Maas" Hiking Route:

1. Use the information brochure about the Archeo hiking route "Eiland in de Maas" as your guide. You can pick up this brochure for free at the local tourist information offices (VVV-Vestigingen). It provides extra information about the places you will pass along the way and includes a map of the route. Additionally, open the Archeo Route Limburg app at each Archeo Route Limburg location to experience the stories behind the archaeological findings.

2. Use the route on your smartphone as your guide (instead of the aforementioned brochure). Click on the download button below to directly access the route in our route planner. Click on the "see and do" button below the map and select the Archeo location. This will show you the locations of archaeological sites along the route. You can start the route immediately on your smartphone by clicking "NAVIGATE". Make sure to enable your GPS location. This way, you can see exactly where you are on the route. You can also share or print the route. Additionally, open the Archeo Route Limburg app at each Archeo Route Limburg location to experience the stories behind the archaeological findings.
