"Yesss, they're coming!" I exclaimed excitedly to my friend. "My girlfriends from Ridderkerk are coming, and we're going to do the asparagus bike tour that we did last time!"
A few weeks later, they arrived by train and bike at the Reuver train station. After a delicious piece of Limburgse Vlaai, the bike tour could begin. The sun was shining brightly, and the air was fresh. "This promises to be a beautiful day," I said with a smile.
We cycled past asparagus fields, through idyllic villages like the hamlets of Ronckenstein and Rijkel, and enjoyed the beautiful nature. "Did you know that Limburg is the birthplace of asparagus cultivation?" I told my friends. "We grow the best asparagus in the country here!"
Along the way, we stopped at a farm shop where we bought fresh asparagus. "Later, we'll have lunch on a cozy terrace, because we have plenty of those around here," I said. "With asparagus salad and Limburg wine!" The girls were excited. "This is great," said Anouk. "Such a bike route is a fantastic way to explore the area. And so easy, you just have to follow the nodes."
On a cozy terrace, we savored the asparagus salad and sipped our wine. "This is the perfect day out," Lotte laughed. "Thanks for the invitation!" "You're always welcome," I said. "I'm glad you also appreciate Limburg so much." After lunch and a few more glasses of wine, we cycled along the Maas for a while. The sun began to set, and the sky turned orange. "This is truly an unforgettable day," said Lotte. "I'm glad we did this together."
"Me too," I said with a smile. "Limburg is my home, and I'm happy to share it with you."
TIP: The route can also be cycled from various accommodations along the route.
