Baronsberg Baexem

The Baronsberg hill in the stream valley of the Haelensche Beek was raised by human hands. The reason for this is unclear.

Different reasons have been thought up. They think it is probably a medieval motto, but it could also be a burial mound of an important Roman person. And finally, it could be a belvedere. This is a viewpoint in the park of the nearby castle of Baexem.

In clear weather, the baron of Baexem castle could see the market square of Roermond from the mountain 10 km away. In a flank of the mountain, a German monk, who had fled from nearby Exaten, founded a Marian cave in 1878.
