In honour of the 100th birthday of the 'Zangeres Zonder Naam' (real name Mary Servaes) Visit Noord- en Midden-Limburg revives this Cycling Route. The cycle route that was developed several years ago has been completely updated. The Zangeres Zonder Naam Route leads through Weert to Stramproy, a small village in the municipality of Weert. You'll also pass a number of beautiful nature reserves in the Weerter Land.
During this cycle route we'll also find out about the typical Dutch windmills in Stamproy: Nijverheid, St. Jan and St. Anna. All three are managed by Molenstichting Weerterland and are in excellent condition.
It's only possible for few people to be a legend during their lifetime. The Zangeres Zonder Naam has certainly acquired this status. With the special rendition of the 'Levenslied' (literally song about life) that Johnny Hoes selected, wrote and in many cases produced for her, she goes down in history as one of the most remarkable and special singers the Dutch and Flemish showbiz has ever known.
The repertoire of the queen of the 'levenslied' still gives many people comfort, love and friendship through the songs that have been taken directly from life. She grew up under difficult circumstances and in poverty.
Yet the Zangeres Zonder Naam worked her way up to become the unforgettable "Queen of the Levenslied" who received respect and appreciation in all circles, both in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
