Haelen

Cycle route

The Van Horne-kastelenfietsroute is 40 kilometres long and starts in Haelen. The starting point is the car park at Bezoekerscentrum Leudal.

The route is named after the noble Van Horne family. The last surviving family member was killed by a brutal beheading. The beheading of Philips van Horne in 1568 triggered the Eighty Years' War (1568-1648). In Horn, you will cycle past the ancestral home of this noble family.

While cycling this route, you will pass various castles, landscapes and monuments. At the description of some castles you can scan a QR code. With this QR code you will experience the unique story of the residents and the time in which they lived.
