The Hompesche Mill has a rich history, which is well described. They are taking you through 300 years of history. In 1719, Reinaert Vincent de Hompesch (ca. 1660-1733) bought the seigneuries of Stevensweert and nearby Ohé and Laak with the Walborg. It is this Reinaert Vincent who had the mill built in 1721-1722. The windmill is a so-called scaffold mill: at a height of several metres you will find a turntable. This is where the miller can bring the sails into position.
A grip on the wind
Of course, the wind was important, which is why a high and exposed location was deliberately chosen. The mill has a total of six floors: a basement followed by five mill attics. At 37 metres, it is the tallest mill in Limburg.
