Gitstappermolen
The watermill, a national monument, is a so-called middle-stage mill and is located at the address Gitstappermolenweg 3 in Vlodrop. The water mill is located just east of the hamlet of Etsberg. The water mill is fed by water from the Rothenbach. The Rothenbach is a stream that locally forms the border between Germany (Nord-Rhein-Westfalen) and the Netherlands.
Originally the mill was made of wood, but around 1750 a stone mill building with two paddle wheels was built: one for grinding corn and one for grinding oil. After World War I, the oil mill with grinding seat was removed and only corn was ground. In 1988, the old water mill was refurbished and regained its former function: grinding corn into flour for the artisan baker.
Shop
The Gitstappermolen has a shop where you can buy delicious local products that are (partly) made at the mill. Gitstappermolen is the shop for all your baking mixes, bread mixes, flour and seeds! Every Saturday and Sunday, fresh floor-spelt bread is baked in our own mill.
