Explore the mills of Nederweert
The municipality of Nederweert is home to a vast outlying area, in which several Natura 2000 areas and the National Park De Groote Peel shine. Moreover, this area is characterized by the presence of several canals, including the Zuid-Willemsvaart, the Noordervaart and Kanaal Wessem - Nederweert. During a walk through this landscape, you will pass the Kanalenviersprong, a unique pearl of the Netherlands. Not to be missed is also the hydroelectric power plant at Roeven, built in 1923 by Rijkswaterstaat, which serves to light Lock 15 and the lock in the Noordervaart.
Starting point
If you choose to complete the entire route in one go, it is convenient to start in the center of Ospel or Nederweert. Both places offer ample free parking and have catering establishments where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a tasty snack. During the hike you will traverse mainly quiet roads leading through farmland.
Tribute
As you walk through the center of Nederweert, you will also pass the British Military Cemetery. This field of honor houses the graves of 363 brave soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom.
