Neyenghoor Neer

Places of interest

Next to the present farmstead of Ghoor, there used to be a castle several centuries ago, the origins of which date back to the 13th century.

The Lords of Ghoor were the founders of this castle. They also had a property in Haelen, to avoid confusion they started calling the castle in Haelen Aldenghoor (ald=old) and the new castle Neyenghoor (neyen=new). In the 18th century the castle was demolished, probably for lack of money.

The Farmhouse, a former estate, has stood the test of time and gives an impression of the grandeur of the demolished castle.
