Starting point Council House of Neer
The starting point of this walk is the former town hall of Neer, situated against the slope of the St. Martinus church. The St. Martinus church has always been important. Because of the striking and dominant place that the church occupies on the terrace of the main road, the church has a special significance for the appearance of the village of Neer. The former town hall was originally built as a school in 1818.
Friedesse Mill
Between Junctions 36 and 29, you will also pass the Friedesse Molen, situated in a picturesque spot on the Neerbeek. The water mill dates from 1717. This date is indicated by the anchors on the adjacent house. The name of the mill comes from Godefridus Tobben, who was a miller at the time the mill was established.
The Wehrmacht house
At junction 69 and a loop at junction 68, you come to a remnant of the Second World War, the Wehrmachtshuisje. It was built at the start of the Second World War by the Germans to detect and shoot down Allied aircraft with floodlights in the airspace. It also contained the anti-aircraft guns of the Germans.
