Pieterpad stages Swalmen
Perhaps the most famous hiking path in the Netherlands, the Pieterpad, runs right through Swalmen. Swalmen is both end point and starting point of 2 stages of the famous Pieterpad hike. Stage 9 runs from Venlo to Swalmen and the tenth stage is a 22-kilometre hike from Swalmen to Montfort, also located in central Limburg.
Maas-Swalm-Nette Border Park nature reserve
Near Swalmen is the Maas-Swalm-Nette Border Park. A unique nature reserve stretching across the Netherlands and Germany. The areas vary from extremely wet and nutrient-rich in the Maas valley and stream valleys to extremely dry, sandy and nutrient-poor on the higher terraces. A unique bird conservation area with excellent hiking trails.
