Guided tour Roermond: city of architecture

The historic centre of Roermond has 800 years of building history. As a result, the city has many different architectural styles, ranging from classical to modern. Together with the VVV tour guide, you will walk past several of these monumental buildings.

In the town centre you find the late Romanesque/early Gothic Munsterkerk and the late Gothic St. Christopher's cathedral. The regional Maas style can be found in a building called the 'Steenen Trappen'(stone steps) and in the 'Prinsenhof' (princes' court).
From the 19th century onwards, several neo-styles succeeded eachother. In response to this, from 1880 onwards, a totally new art movement developed, called 'Jugendstil' (Art Nouveau Style). Roermond still has several very beautiful Jugendstil buildings.
In the 20th century, numerous architectural styles followed, including Art Deco and the Amsterdam School.
This tour leads along old and contemporary architecture and monuments in the historic centre of Roermond.
