Cycle route

Cycle route: 70.8 km. This cross-border cycle tour introduces you to the splendour of Limburg: green nature, cosy (border) villages and the beauty of water.

Limburg is known as the sunny and Burgundian south and in Belgium they also know what Burgundian life is all about. This cycle route literally takes you across the border. You will cycle through beautiful surroundings and pass various border villages. Relive the history and discover how the border between Neeritter and Kessenich was established.

The route takes you past the fortified town of Stevensweert, the port of Maasbracht and the atmospheric white town of Thorn. Part of Stevensweert is a protected townscape. The fortifications can still be recognised in the street pattern of the town. Maasbracht is chosen by many inland shippers as their "home port". At 11.85 metres, the Maasbracht locks have the greatest decline of all the locks in the Netherlands. The centre of Thorn, as a whole, with its stately white houses, is a protected townscape. The streets are paved with Maas cobblestones. The town contains a large number of national monuments. Sights include the St. Michael's Church or Stiftskerk, the Thorn Abbey and the former Beguinage.

The highlight of this tour is a crossing with the ferry between the Belgian Ophoven and the Dutch Ohé and Laak, located on the Island in the Maas.
