Welcome to the Sint Janspoort in Roermond! This is a special place that takes us back in time. Here you'll find an impressive artwork made of Corten steel with the inscription 'Sint Janspoort'. It resembles a gate, with trees planned in the future to form a tunnel. This is to show how the real gate looked like in the past.
Long ago, about 500 years ago, Roermond was a city with thick walls. Some parts of those old walls can still be seen in the city. The Sint Janspoort stood almost in the same spot as this artwork. It was an important gate where cattle passed through and was also known colloquially as the 'Koepoort'.
