On the route is the beautiful Castle Montfort. Montfort Castle dates from 1260 and was for centuries one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. It was built by Hendrik van Gelre, on a ridge in the water-rich Vlootbeek valley. You will not only come across Montfort Castle as a special place on the route, but you will also pass the Vector of Memory Mass Grave. The grave monument in Montfort was erected in memory of the 186 war victims from Montfort and surrounding villages.
The walk starts at Guesthouse 't Smedenhuys.
