Pieterpad route

The Pieterpad is a hiking trail that runs through the Netherlands. The route runs from Pieterburen in the north of the country to the Sint Pietersberg in the south of our country. The Pieterpad is 492 kilometers long. Stages 9, 10 and 11 run through the beautiful countryside of northern and central Limburg.

Pieterpad stages

Stage 9: Venlo - Swalmen: After Venlo, the Pieterpad crosses the high terrace of the river Maas. This goes along the steep edge which is also the border with Germany. Past a border café with a view of the Meuse valley, you eventually reach the small river Swalm. Here you walk along beautiful riparian areas, grasslands and winding paths. Nature is beautiful during this part of the Pieterpad! You have the opportunity to spot the kingfisher, bank swallow and beaver. In Swalmen, you can enjoy a delicious coffee or wine on the market square.

Stage 10: Swalmen - Montfort: Along the Roman road you walk past castle farms, slowly heading south. In Sint Odiliënberg, you can see from the church how Limburg is intertwined with the Catholic faith. Finally, you hike through the countryside until you reach Montfort in the Sweeltje nature reserve and walk across an old drift dune belt.

Stage 11: Montfort - Sittard: Towards the south of Limburg you walk along hollow roads and picturesque villages. After a bit of Germany, you walk along the Red Brook and the Geleen Brook. Over the banks you eventually reach the final destination Sittard. The historic city center is among the oldest cities in the Netherlands and is home to monuments, statues and city walls, among other things.
