Winter in Roermond with Friends:The Best Tips

It actually started with a message. “Kim is turning 50. We’re not just going to let that pass by, right?” We quickly agreed: a few days away, the six of us, somewhere cosy. Since I’ve lived in Roermond almost my whole life, the others didn’t have to think long. Roermond it was.

All together

I also went for the full experience, so we all booked, Hotel Roermond, right in the city centre. You can park there as well, which saves a lot of hassle. Once everything was unpacked, the first plan was simple: Designer Outlet Roermond.Kim wanted new winter boots, and the men pretended to be bored, but they didn’t return empty-handed either. The Designer Outlet was beautifully decorated, and so was Roermond’s city centre. Downside: the ladies kept taking photos, hahaha. That evening, we had dinner at De Beren.Large plates, good food, and no fuss. We stayed too long, drank too much wine, and laughed about stories we already knew. Exactly what we needed.

Exploring the city

The clear blue sky meant we headed into the city early in the morning to explore. Lighting a candle in the Munsterkerk is, of course, part of that. In Roermond, many cosy restaurants already offer an extensive lunch or early dinner in the afternoon. We went for a burger at Burgers Enzo, an enormous range to choose from, highly recommended! Kim got a birthday burger with a little candle in it. We sang ‘Happy Birthday’ so loudly that everyone in the restaurant eventually joined in. Because life should be celebrated, right? Since that evening we absolutely wanted to go to the Winter Fever Arena wanted to go there because there’s something fun going on almost every evening, we first stopped for a drink at de PauwA beer, a glass of wine, catching up about nothing and everything. And let’s be honest, it turned into another cosy and late night.

Full of stories and new memories

When my friends were back home, I received all kinds of sweet messages about how much they had enjoyed Roermond and the wonderful stories they took with them. How quickly the time had passed. About Kim and her candle in the burger, and about that one evening at the Winter Fever Arena. In short, I think they, just like me, have taken this city into their hearts.
