Nature Park Maas-Schwalm-Nette
The German-Dutch Nature Park Maas-Schwalm-Nette is located on the border of the province of Limburg in the Netherlands and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, between Susteren, Leudal, Venlo and Mönchengladbach. The border park includes the German nature park Schwalm-Nette and the Dutch municipalities of Beesel, Leudal, Echt-Susteren, Maasgouw, Roerdalen, Roermond and Venlo.
Nature reserves
The Nature Park is home to some of the largest nature reserves, including De Meinweg National Park. These areas, with a combined area of more than 10,000 hectares on either side of the border, range from extremely wet and nutrient-rich areas in the Meuse valley and stream valleys to dry, sandy and nutrient-poor terraces on higher ground. Cycling routes and hiking trails traverse these natural areas and provide an excellent opportunity to explore the diversity of this beautiful landscape.
Cycling and hiking
For more than 40 years, the beautiful natural and cultural landscape of the German-Dutch Nature Park Maas-Schwalm-Nette has been the subject of cross-border cooperation. The area invites discovery through cycle tours or walks, leading visitors through various natural and cultural landscapes. Information and visitor centres offer the opportunity to be comprehensively informed about the rich diversity of the border park.
