Places of interest

The monumental castle Groot Buggenum in Grathem is situated in the landscape of the municipality of Leudal.

Groot Buggenum Castle, also known as Oud-Buggenum, has had several owners throughout its history. Professor and architect Helmuth Hentrich owned the ruin thoroughly restored from 1975 onwards. The castle is now owned by the Province of Limburg.

The castle has whitewashed walls and the appearance of a neo-gothic hunting lodge.

Around the castle is a fairytale garden with several garden rooms and fountains. The garden is separated with stone walls. Groot Buggenum Castle is currently used as a meeting, wedding and party location and organized guided tours.

The castle is not freely accessible to the public, but can be visited under the guidance of a guide. These tours must be booked in advance.
