Project Grenzgeschichte
The cycling route Grenzgeschichte 1 - Battles is part of the project Grenzgeschichte(n). It focusses on events that took place at the end of the Second World War, and deals with the history (Geschichte) and the stories (Geschichten) from that period in the border region. The municipalities of Niederkrüchten, Roerdalen and Roermond want to inform about these events and unite in advocating freedom and peace.

This cycling route takes you past various locations that played an important role in the Second World War. You cycle through a landscape marked by occupation, fighting and liberation. The route highlights the period 1944-1945, focusing on the heavy fighting that took place here and the preparations for it in the winter of 1944-1945.
