In the shadow of Operation Market Garden, the airborne operation that proved to be a bridge too far, Nederweert was in the area of operations of the British 8th Corps. On Sept. 22, 1944, Nederweert was liberated by scouts from the 3rd British Infantry Division.

They drove into Nederweert via the Booldersdijk and across Strateris. German units withdrew and established a new front along the Noordervaart and the Wessem-Nederweert Canal. The front stabilized and Nederweert became the new front line.
