War memorials

Formerly, it seemed that Gennep would not be involved in World War II. But that changed when the Maas temporarily became the border between the warring parties. In the beginning of 1945, the town was taken by the Allies and thus Gennep became the starting point of the Rhineland Offensive.

Conquest of Gennep

In 1945, the Allies finally conquered Gennep, which was essential to be able to break through to the heart of the German Reich. It was the beginning of the Rhineland Offensive, which ultimately led to the liberation of large parts of Western Europe. The border area became the pivot and turning point at the end of the war, with an offensive of unprecedented scale from Dutch territory.
