Altweerterheide is a church village southwest of Weert and is the most western place in Dutch Limburg between the farmlands and against the forests. The reclamation of the area around Altweerterheide only began in the early twentieth century. This led to the construction of several farms in the area. Later on, a real residential area emerged with a wooden church from 1925 as its central point. The village is surrounded by all kinds of nature reserves, including the Laura woods, the IJzeren Man and the Tungeler Wallen. An ideal environment for walking, cycling or horse riding.
