Venray's location between National Park De Groote Peel and river Maas has created a beautiful landscape with great biodiversity. Several nature reserves in the municipality are home to special flora and fauna. A unique area, which has not existed for very long, is Maaspark Ooijen-Wanssum. The Maaspark was created to provide protection from the high water levels of the Meuse. This created a 540-hectare area that is the largest contiguous area of Maas nature in northern Limburg!
