Weerdbeemden

The Weerdbeemden nature reserve is located in Kessel between Musschenberg and Kessel-Eik. This area was created in the 19th century through the excavation of clay.

The sandy ridges in this area are overgrown with bushes. Because the Maas is so close, this is an ideal area for birds. In the past, clay was excavated for a brickworks nearby, which is still there. This created a marshy area. Gallow cattle graze in this nature reserve and there is a beautiful flora and fauna. When it has rained and you want to walk here, it is useful to wear boots or sturdy walking shoes because of the swampy area.
