Nature Asseltse Plassen

Recreational water

The Asseltse Plassen were created by gravel extraction and are located in Asselt in the municipality of Roermond. It is a quiet recreational area where you can sail, surf, row, canoe, dive and fish.

There are jetties for visitors. This lake is easy to reach by bicycle or car. Small islands, ruggedness along the banks, extensive lakes and reed beds are the characteristics of the Asseltse Plassen. Furthermore, it is very rich in dragonflies; no fewer than 29 species have been observed.

In some places, you can take a canoe and sail through the willow bushes; nature has developed in such a way that this is possible. The Asseltse Plassen consist of 150 ha of water and 50 ha of other nature. Naturally Asselt offers the opportunity to discover the watery nature with Canadian canoes. Highly recommended, as everything looks slightly different from the water.

Along the Asselt lakes, there are fixed walking routes, including the Normannenroute. On the other side, in Buggenum, you will find the Village Walk Buggenum, which also offers a beautiful view of the Asseltse Plassen and the Maas. If you are more of a cyclist, the Swalmdalroute passes by this beautiful lake. Close to the lakes, there are several café-restaurants that offer a view of the marina and the Asselt lakes from their terraces.
