Area of natural beauty

The Boshuizerbergen is an area of 200 hectares of beautiful nature. The nature reserve located northeast of Venray is known for its extensive sand drifts and its unique juniper berries.

The area is very unique. Going from southwest to northeast the area changes. In the southwest, right next to a railroad line and surrounded by pine forest lies the juniper thicket, the largest in the southern Netherlands. The oldest Juniper trees are no less than 115 years old.  In 1931, there was a threat of reclamation of this area but Het Limburgs Landschap then established a foundation to preserve this unique area with its whimsical silhouettes of juniper trees.
