Area of natural beauty

Exaten is a 141-hectare estate located southeast of Baexem.

Landscape

Coniferous and oak forests, avenues of beech and American oak, coppice hedges, meadows and fields alternate. Two distinctive farms, Stockxhof and Exatenhof, are located in the area. Exaten is crossed by the Haelense Beek and the N68. On the south side the estate borders the Beegderheide, while the north side runs over into the Leudal via the Beijlshof.

Exaten can be divided into two parts: the stream valley of the Haelense Beek and the high sandy soils south of it. In the stream valley there are some poplar groves. However, the largest area of the stream valley is occupied by meadows. For the benefit of the amphibian fauna, seven pools have been created here. At the transition from the brook valley to the sandy soil, a steep ridge several meters high can still be seen in places.

Accessibility

Exaten is freely accessible to hikers via roads and paths. A number of sandy paths can also be used by cyclists. Equestrians are welcome on the bridleway that crosses the area. The location of Exaten, between Leudal, Beegderheide and other nature reserves, makes this area very suitable for walking and cycling tours.
