The long-distance trail RivierPark Maasvallei is a cross-border trail of 137 kilometres along the Maas. The route runs between Maastricht and Thorn and takes you through nature areas and Maas villages in the Netherlands and Belgium. You can walk the trail over several days or divide it into separate stages.

Walking along the Maas

During this long-distance trail, you follow the rhythm of the Maas. The river flows like a blue line through the landscape and forms the thread of the route. You walk past gravel lakes, riverbanks and wild nature, but also through villages where life has revolved around the Maas for centuries.

Along the way, quiet nature areas and lively Maas villages take turns. This creates a route where nature, culture and the landscape of the Maas valley come together. In 2021, this long-distance trail was named Best Walking Route of the Benelux by RivierPark Maasvallei.

Signposted and easy to divide into stages

The route is fully signposted in both directions with hexagonal white signs bearing the RivierPark Maasvallei logo. In some places, you may still see the older green signs with the old logo. These are currently being replaced.

You can start the walk in several gateway villages along the Maas. Places such as Stevensweert and Thorn are logical starting points. Thanks to bridges and ferries, you can also shorten the route or divide it into smaller stages.

Would you like to set off well prepared? There is also an extensive walking guide available with maps and background information about the area. You can order this brochure in the webshop.
