The route begins in the countryside of Swalmen-Boukoul, where you’ll immediately encounter impressive works by Pierre, such as Villa Graeterhof. Your first major stop is the stately Kapellerkwartier in Roermond. Getting off your bike here is a must! Stroll through the Kruiswegpark (Way of the Cross Park) he designed and take a moment at the monumental Oude Kerkhof (Old Cemetery). Cuypers redesigned this cemetery and designed the imposing Neo-Romanesque episcopal burial chapel. You can also visit his own family tomb here.
You reach the city center via his former home and workshop (now the Cuypershuis). Park your bike securely, as the center begs to be explored on foot, taking in icons like the bandstand on the Munsterplein. To ensure you don't miss a thing, a handy Cuypers walking guide is available for purchase at the VVV Hart van Limburg store on the Markt. After a well-deserved break on a terrace, pedal back out of the city. You return to the start via picturesque Asselt, enjoying views of the River Maas along the way.
