The nature reserve comprises about 900 ha, of which a large part (500 ha) is managed as a reserve by the State Forestry Administration. In the area is a beautiful water mill, the Sint Ursula mill, also called the Leumolen.
The Leudal is a very popular walking area with, for example, the Peellandpad. But there are also many shorter walking routes, some of which are marked with coloured posts. These start near the visitor centre Leudal. There are also bridle paths through the area and cycle paths as part of the cycle route network.
The stream valleys in the Leudal are of a picturesque beauty. They are covered with mostly natural forest with hazel, birch and willow. Between the trees, the Zelsterbeek and the Leubeek meander. Over centuries, the water has carved the stream valleys to such depths that they have become a kind of ravine.
At the transition from higher to lower grounds, rainwater runoff has formed hollows in the valleys. The Leudal is a nature reserve in the province of Limburg. It is located between the villages Haelen, Roggel, Neer, Nunhem and Heythuysen in the municipality of Leudal.
