In February 1945, Operation Veritable began, marking the start of the Rhineland Offensive. The Allies aimed to surprise the Germans by attacking them from the side and hoped to quickly advance to Berlin. However, the sudden thaw completely disrupted the plan. The rain and mud made it almost impossible to move forward, but the Allies still held hope for victory.

Through rain and mud to victory

Operation Veritable was a crucial operation during World War II. The Allies wanted to enter Germany through the Netherlands, and the regions of Nijmegen and North Limburg served as the gathering point. On February 8, 1945, the Rhineland Offensive began with the intention of surrounding German troops through a tank movement from Gennep towards Goch. In a month and a half, the area became the pivot and turning point of the war, where almost 500,000 soldiers fought for every meter and many gave their lives for freedom.
