In Wessem, you can hire a boat and go to the Grote Heggen, the Polderveld, the Slaag or the oude maas. At this lake you can moor your boat and enjoy the tranquillity. The Slaag is partly accessible on its banks. Where sheep graze, dogs are allowed on a leash.
On the banks of the Slaag, a narrow reed and cattail vegetation predominates. Reed warblers, not very common in Central Limburg, sing here. Local bushes have been planted in the redevelopment of this lake, where garden warblers and Fitis dwell. In the summer, water sports enthusiasts make use of the Slaag. During the cold winter months, water birds from the north use the area as a resting place.
