Places of interest

The 'Norfolk monument' in Venray was erected in memory of the soldiers of the 1st battalion of the Royal Norfolk Regiment who fell during the battle of Loobeek. The monument also commemorates 300 civilians who lost their lives during the battle near Overloon and Venray.

The monument is a pyramid of brick with inlaid boulders. The pyramid is topped by a statue of a soldier. On each side are black marble plaques with a gold inscription. The statue of the soldier on top of the monument disappeared in 2013 and was subsequently returned through Police and Municipality. The monument was restored and unveiled again in May 2015, after which it was unfortunately stolen again.
