Learn all about nature
What could be more fun than going outside together and discovering nature with a scoop net in your hand or recognizing benthic animals on a search board? The Nature and Environment Center organizes all kinds of hands-on activities about nature, the environment and sustainability for young and old.
Interactive Center
When you walk into the center, you immediately see the biodiversity column. The column consists of colorful cubes where you can push all kinds of buttons and are challenged to think about nature. The petting corridor is a big hit with kids. In the corridor there are stuffed animals that you can carefully pet. Walk further and you come to the biotope wall with its interactive games. There is also a dark tunnel where you can run through.
Aquarium
In the large aquarium, made available by the Limburg Water Board, swim fish that occur in the Tungelroyse stream.
Snuffiepad
IVN Weert has set out a new walking path in the IJzeren Man area, starting at the Nature and Environment Center. The path called "Snuffiepad" is suitable for families with young children. Before you start the hike, buy a bag with assignments and materials for €5 inside the NMC.
The rabbit Snuffie shows you the way through the forest, across the sandy plain, the heath, the fens, along the stream and through the garden of the NMC. The walk is suitable for any time of year.
Discover the large garden
The Nature and Environment Center has a large garden, which changes color every season. There is an insect garden, herb garden, gardeny forest, climate garden and a stone garden with large stones from the Ice Age. The paths lead you past benches, picnic tables, bridges, groundwater gauge, weather hut and a bee hall. In summer, beekeepers open the apiary on Sundays by request. In the herb garden you can taste and smell the different herbs.
Kempen~Broek Border Park
Furthermore, the Nature and Environment Center is one of the gateways to the Kempen~Broek Border Park. This cross-border landscape park of 25,000 ha stretches across the Netherlands and Belgium.
