In World War II, the Germans built checkpoints from which they could intercept Allied aircraft that had taken off from England to bomb the Ruhr area with large searchlights and radars. Near such a post was a small building to house the six to eight Wehrmacht soldiers who had to operate it; hence the term "Wehrmacht house. These houses have often fallen into disrepair, yet they are a special memento of World War II. Discover a piece of history here.
