SWALMEN
A person walks past a large, historic brick mansion with tall windows and a gabled roof. The building is situated along a quiet road and partially surrounded by a hedge and flowers.
A group of swallows flies past the facade of an old brick building with a white window frame and a gutter supported by wooden brackets, under a partly cloudy sky.
A brick pillar with the inscription “Zuidewijk Spick” marks the entrance to a historic estate. In the background, an old stone bridge over a moat and brick buildings can be seen under a partly cloudy sky.

Places of interest

Around 1460 the original 'spieker' (fortified house with large granary) was built by Hendrik van de Griende.

In later times the house is getting other owners with bear familiar names in Limburg, such as Merwijck and Dursdael. In 1725, a man named Suytwijk, Baron of Hagestein, becomed the owner of the house. Around 1920 the house was sold again and again later to its current owner, who has been busy for years with a careful restoration of the building.
