Museum

The Abdijkerk Thorn is a remarkable landmark in the white town of Thorn. In this former collegiate church, you can discover the story of noblewomen who lived here for centuries. The church now partly serves as a museum, offering an impressive glimpse into the religious and cultural life of the past.

A special glimpse into Thorn's past

In the middle of the charming white town of Thorn stands the Abbey Church, also known as St. Michael's Church. This centuries-old church was once the heart of a noble abbey, where women of high birth lived and lived according to religious traditions. Today the church is partly furnished as a museum, where this special history comes to life.

Thorn Abbey Church is not only an imposing church building, but also a special museum that tells the story of a unique piece of history. For centuries, this church was the center of a noble abbey, where women of high birth lived according to religious rules, but also enjoyed a high degree of independence. The museum in the church brings this world to life.

During a visit, you will discover in the church interior and museum rooms what life was like inside the post. You will find valuable art treasures, funerary monuments, liturgical objects and documents that illustrate the rich past of the abbey. The combination of religious architecture and historical presentation makes the museum particularly fascinating for anyone interested in heritage, religion and women's history.

A film about the history of Thorn and the noble abbey provides a nice introduction to the visit. You can then explore the church and museum at your own pace. Please note that the Abbey Church Thorn - like other museums - can only be visited for a fee. Admission gives access to both the church building and the museum rooms.

Please note that on Sundays, the church is only open to visitors from 11:00 a.m., following the 10:45 a.m. Holy Mass.

Thorn Abbey Church thus offers a unique insight into an almost forgotten world, where spirituality, power and tradition come together.
