Development of nature
Nature has developed rapidly here. Special birds have been spotted in the area and beavers live here. Unique plants also flourish at the lake. The Galloway cattle and Konik horses contribute to the diversity of nature through their grazing behavior.
Wander and walk facilities
The Molenplas area is a trail area, which means hiking is allowed everywhere, including off the trails. Dogs are welcome, if leashed. For those who do not like to stroll, a gravel path has been laid out around the lake. This walk takes over 2 hours and takes you over a bridge and stepping stones. Keep in mind that parts of the path can flood at high tide and are only passable with boots.
Several tree circles have been placed at the Molenplas. From the Hompesche Mill, the first tree monument can already be seen. The oaks, which were buried under the gravel of the Meuse 1,500 to 2,000 years ago, have been preserved in this way. These black trees came to the surface during the gravel extraction from which Mill Lake was created. In memory of the days of yore, they have been placed here as a monument and landmark.
