Museum W

Museum W lies in the city centre of Weert. This national monument, a former town hall, has been completely restored. Most striking is the gold-coloured façade, designed by Maurice Mentjens. Inside, you will discover a varied collection of cultural-historical objects and art.

Exciting presentation

"MUSEUM W IS A HOUSE FULL OF STORIES - ABOUT IDENTITY AND MEANING.

In Museum W, you follow a cultural-historical route along important life themes that every person, regardless of who they are or where they come from, has to deal with or will have to deal with. If you want to know more about how people have shaped their lives in all kinds of ways in the past and present, then Museum W is worth a visit. What forms your identity? What is meaningful to you, how do you let yourself be influenced? Museum W challenges you.

The presentation is based on a collection that originally has two faces: regional and religious. From prehistoric urns to beautiful silverware in an excitingly designed treasure chamber. Paintings, sculptures, utensils and special trinkets from more than seven centuries are on display. Feast your eyes on our museum rooms in surprising colours and atmospheres.

Exhibitions

Museum W organises two temporary exhibitions a year. And in the beautifully renovated former Council Chamber, the place that for centuries was the power centre of the city, you can see small exhibitions of contemporary art from the collection twice a year. The LED screens in the facade of Museum W show special video animations. Visit www.museumw.nl for the full programme.

Get more out of your visit

We would like to share the many fascinating stories of Museum W with you in a more personal way. A group tour of the collection presentation or the temporary exhibition will offer you new and surprising perspectives. Interested? Please contact us at museumw@weert.nl. We will be happy to help.

Facilities in brief

Due to the historical character of the building, our museum rooms are not very large. However, Museum W does have a lift, a disabled toilet, two loaner wheelchairs and museum stools. There is also a small, open wardrobe and lockers. Museum W does not have a museum café. Feel like a cup of coffee with flan or soup with a sandwich? There are various cafés and restaurants around the museum building.

Museum card action

From 1 December to 1 June, holders of a museum card will receive a voucher upon entering Museum W. With this voucher, you will receive a delicious cup of coffee with apple pie for only € 4.95 in the lunchroom of Stadshotel Weert, located on Markt 1a, just around the corner from the museum.
